How MCNs assist in health care delivery
The key role that MCNs can play in health care delivery featured prominently in the report of the CHD/Stroke Task Force (Sept. 2001) which forms the basis of our national strategy for CHD and Stroke.
Managed Clinical Networks were originally defined in the NHS MEL (1999) 10 as;
“linked groups of health professionals and organisations from primary, secondary and tertiary care, working in a co-ordinated manner, unconstrained by existing professional and Health Board boundaries, to ensure equitable provision of high quality clinically effective services throughout Scotland”
The core principles of a MCN are stated in NHS HDL (2002) 69
